Sociobiology 's view on human behaviour(part1)

Reference: Sociology by Anthony Giddens - Culture, Society and the Individual

The reproductive strategy is a pattern of behaviour, arrived at through evolutionary selection, which favours the chances of survival of offspring.

The female body has a very large investment in its reproductive cells compared to the male. Thus woman will not squander that inverstment, and are not driven to have sexual relations with many partners; their overriding aim is the care and protection of offspring.

Men, on the other hand, tend towards promiscruity. Their wish to have sex with many partners is sound strategy from the point of view of species; they fulfil their role, which is maximize the possibility of impregnation, and move on.

In this way, it has been suggested, we can explain differences in sexual behaviour and the attitudes of men and women an dth eaccount for phenonmena such as rape!
